Taking to her X handle, CM Maryam Nawaz Said:
“Punjab will enjoy a long weekend with Kashmir Day on Saturday February 5, a provincial Basant holiday on February 6, followed by the regular Saturday and Sunday.”

This announcement comes after the Punjab government lifted a 25-year ban on kite flying, allowing Basant celebrations under strict safety conditions. Preparations for the festival are in full swing, particularly in Lahore, which will host festivities from February 6 to 8.

Provincial government departments have joined citizens in the Basant preparations. The Lahore administration has decorated public transport buses with Basant-themed artwork, including Speedo and green electric buses adorned with cultural designs and Punjab-inspired colors.

The Punjab government has also announced free travel across Lahore on the Metro Bus, Orange Line, Speedo, and electric bus services during the festival period to facilitate citizens attending the celebrations.

Punjab Prepares For Basant Festival with Holiday on 6 Feb
To ensure a safe and orderly Basant festival, the Lahore Deputy Commissioner has constituted Quick Response Teams (QRTs) in every tehsil. These teams will be responsible for monitoring the events, managing crowds, and providing emergency response during the celebrations.
